The Bundestag constituency Dresden I (constituency 159) is an electoral district in Saxony . It includes the city districts of Altstadt , Blasewitz , Leuben , Plauen and Prohlis of the independent city of Dresden . For the 2013 federal election, the constituency was given the number 159 - but its layout has not been changed.

The constituency became known nationwide in the 2005 Bundestag election, when after the death of the NPD direct candidate Kerstin Lorenz, citizens could not vote as in the rest of Germany on September 18, 2005, but only in a by-election on October 2, 2005 .

After the CDU has won overhang seats in Saxony , his election contributes to the inflation of the Bundestag through its additional mandate and compensatory mandates for other parties.
