Siegfried Wölffling

Siegfried Wölffling (born August 1, 1928 in Altenweddingen ; † December 27, 1995 ) was a German oriental archaeologist and cultural historian .

Siegfried Wölffling first had to interrupt middle school in 1945 to work in the city administration. He did not pass his Abitur until 1950 and then began studying medicine at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , but broke off his studies in 1953 and switched to archeology and anthropology . In 1957 he passed the diploma examination, the subject of the thesis was pyramid and ziggurat. Similarities and differences between the characteristic structures of Egypt and Mesopotamia . A scheduled scientific traineeship followed the course. The doctorate took place in November 1960 with Heinz Mode and Anton Blaschka with an investigation into the history of the German Institute for Egyptian Antiquity in Cairo . Wölffling then became a research assistant at the archaeological seminar of the University of Halle (Department of Early History of the Orient or the scientific field of Oriental Archeology). In January 1969 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Research on the history and organization of German archaeological research in the Middle East from 1871 to 1945.
