Andreas Beck (born May 9, 1976 in Bludenz ) is a former Austrian ski jumper and snowboarder .

Career

Beck started skiing as a child at the ski club in his home town of Brand and switched to the ski school in Stams after completing secondary school in order to accelerate training. At the Junior World Championships in 1991 in Reit im Winkl , he finished fifth in the team competition. Beck made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on January 6, 1992 in Bischofshofen as part of the national group at the Four Hills Tournament . In jumping from the large hill he reached the 30th place. In the same year he won the Alpine Ski Jumping Cup . From the 1993/94 season Beck was a member of the B-team of the Austrian Ski Association . On December 30, 1993, he jumped to 22nd place in Oberstdorf , winning World Cup points for the first time. In addition, he was part of the team for the Ski Jumping Continental Cup that season, in which he competed in parallel. On January 16, 1994 Beck achieved his best individual result in a World Cup with 14th place in Liberec . At the Junior World Championships in 1994 in Breitenwang , he won the bronze medal in team jumping. He finished the ski flying world championship in Planica in 1994 two months later in 33rd place. At the end of the 1993/94 season he was 57th in the overall World Cup ranking. Since there were no leading positions in either the World Cup or the Continental Cup afterwards, Beck ended his active ski jumping career in 1995 after reaching 41st place in the overall standings at the 1995 Summer Grand Prix .

In the following winter Beck switched to snowboarding, where he specialized in the halfpipe . He won his first points in the Snowboard World Cup on January 19, 1997, finishing 30th on the Kreischberg . At the Snowboard World Championships 1997 in Innichen , he finished 46th in the halfpipe. As the best World Cup result, Beck achieved 25th place on March 2, 1997 in Olang . Because there were no top placings, he withdrew from top-class sport after the winter and only took part in competitions sporadically in the 1997/98 season.

Since then, Andreas Beck has dedicated himself to music. He sings, plays several instruments and was a member of the band Workingchair . In 2006 he took part in the third season of the ORF casting show Starmania .
