Dice poker

Dice poker is a collective term for several forms of poker game with specially designed dice .

The varieties

The three fundamentally different forms of dice poker are

Poker Dice or Open Dice Poker ,

Liar Dice or Hidden Dice Poker , fr. Poker menteur , and

The exact rules of the individual game types can be found in the corresponding special articles. Despite all the differences, these varieties have a lot in common.

Derived from dice poker games are, among other things, yacht and the games Yahtzee and Kniffel as well as Balut based on it .

The dice

Poker dice originated in the USA around 1880 , there is a patent from 1881.

Poker dice show the card symbols ace, king, queen, jack, ten and nine in three colors on the six faces. The ace is opposite the nine, the king of ten and the queen opposite the jack.

A set of poker dice consists of five dice. With Escalero you only need one sentence, with Liar Dice two sentences; At Poker Dice it is not absolutely necessary, but beneficial for each player to use their own set of dice.

The combinations

Similar to the game of poker with cards , the following poker combinations ( hands ) are possible; these are in descending order:

Five of a kind , five of a kind , e.g. B. five tens.

Four of a kind , four of a kind , e.g. B. four boys.

Full house , three of a kind and a pair, e.g. B. three aces and two queens.

High straight , the five consecutive values A – K – D – B – 10.

Low straight , the five consecutive values K – D – B – 10–9.

Three of a kind , three of a kind , e.g. B. three aces.

Two pairs , twice two of a kind, e.g. B. two jacks and two nines; the highest pair is used here.

One pair , two of a kind, e.g. B. two tens.

Runt , no combination, e.g. B. A-D-B-10-9.

However, not all the combinations listed are valid in all game types.

Note that a full house is more likely than a straight; the ranking corresponds to that of the card game.

In the case of similar combinations, the ranking is based on the rules of the poker game with cards; so beat z. B. "Three tens, an ace and a queen" a hand of "three tens, an ace and a nine" - which means e.g. B. can also occur in the card games Texas Hold'em or Omaha Hold'em .

In dice poker , five of a kind are often referred to as poker and four of a kind as carré , or five of a kind as grande and four of a kind as poker - in order to avoid misunderstandings, one should use the terms four of a kind and five of a kind .

Repeated rolling of the dice

For all varieties, a player may, after throwing, nor twice trying to improve his throw - this corresponds to a certain extent the card exchange at Draw Poker , but the only card poker is a swap common.

If a player in dice poker is not satisfied with his first throw, he may pick up one or more dice and throw them again. In the course of a game, however, a player may throw a maximum of three dice.

If he throws only one pair in the first litter , he can z. B. pick up three dice to try to get three of a kind , full house or even four or five of a kind with a subsequent roll .
