Hausen near Nieder-Bessingen

The village desert of Hausen is located in the valley of the Wetter , about 3.7 km east of Lich in the district of Gießen .

The place was first mentioned in documents as "Husen" in 1268, and it reached its greatest extent shortly afterwards at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Soon after, the process of desertification took place. In a document from 1436, the place is already listed as "Wüstung Husen", an independent local marker can still be documented until 1551. The corridor marking “Houses Court” can be found in the files of the neighboring communities Nieder-Bessingen (up to the 17th century) and Langsdorf (up to the 19th century). There is a drawing of the former court linden tree from 1851.

From 1968 to 1970 excavations took place under the direction of Waldemar Küther , during which the foundation walls of a church were exposed and restored. The church, which was built in the 13th century, stands on the foundation of an earlier, Irish-Scottish church from the 8th century. In addition to ceramics , stone vessels and a key, an early medieval leg relief from the second half of the 8th century is the most important find of the excavation work.
