W. David Kingery
William David Kingery (born July 7, 1926 in White Plains , New York , † June 30, 2000 in Wickford , North Kingstown , Rhode Island ) was an American materials scientist who dealt with ceramic materials.
Kingery studied chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a bachelor's degree in 1948 and a doctorate in 1950 with Fredrick Harwood Norton. He then went to MIT, where he was given a full professorship in ceramics in 1962. From 1988 he was Professor of Materials Science and Anthropology and from 1992 Regents' Professor at the University of Arizona .
In addition to material science aspects, he also dealt with ceramics as a handicraft.
He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1999 he received the Kyoto Prize . In 1983 he became a Distinguished Life Member of the American Ceramics Society and in 1991 he received the Centennial Award from the Japanese Ceramics Society.
