WBT is an American radio broadcaster from Charlotte, North Carolina . As a clear channel station , it transmits 50 kW on medium wave 1110 kHz and can be heard at night all over eastern North America . Entercom owns the station.
In parallel to medium wave, WBT also operates the WBT-FM stations in Chester , South Carolina and broadcasts via WLNK- HD2. WBT and WBT-FM also broadcast in HD radio mode .
The transmitter's beginnings go back to 1920, when a group of radio amateurs set up it in Charlotte. They received the license to experiment with the callsign 4XD. In 1922 they started a commercial radio broadcast as WBT.
