WF Trac are special forest tractors , also called carrier tractors, from the manufacturer Werner Forst- und Industrietechnik in Trier , which were originally developed by Mercedes-Benz as MB-Trac , based on Unimog units.

history

41,365 MB Trac had been sold by 1991. Around 30,000 of these vehicles are still in use today.

Since 1993 the vehicles have been sold as WF Trac by Werner. Werner used to manufacture the special forestry superstructures for the MB trac .

The WF trac has been heavily modified technically compared to the MB trac. Only four-cylinder engines from Mercedes-Benz from the Unimog were installed. The technical highlight from 1993 to 2004 was a driver's seat that could be hydraulically rotated by 270 °, which enabled the driver to adjust his seating position to the working conditions.

In the newer models from 2005 onwards, the entire driver's cab can even be swiveled through 270 °. They have been completely redeveloped on the basis of the continuously variable power split S-Matic transmission from ZF Passau and the Mercedes-Benz OM 904 LA engine . The power can be transmitted to the wheels mechanically or hydraulically. The ladder frame has been replaced by a self-supporting tub with a central twist joint that allows an angle of 15 °. The joint and the hydropneumatic suspension of the front axle can be locked for more stability during crane operation.

The WF trac is primarily used as a special vehicle in forestry and forest work.

Despite the takeover, the vehicles are still sold through Unimog dealers.

Models

The series includes the following models (sales designation)

Werner

Werner offers his vehicles with the model designation on the driver's cab. Two different basic engine types are installed:

  • WF trac 900 00(95 HP)
  • WF trac 1100 (105 HP)
  • WF trac 1300 (136 HP)
  • WF trac 1500 (150 HP)
  • WF trac 1700 (177 hp)

The external appearance is uniform for the first time. In the light and medium series there is only one bulge on the bonnet. The coolant filler neck is located under it. The hood of the heavy series is styled to match the light one. The advantage of the uniform optics: Thanks to the fine-meshed radiator grille, the radiator protection mat (chopper grille) often used in the predecessors of the heavy-duty series can be omitted.

The ascent to the great types takes place uniformly with three levels. The step on the left can be opened for maintenance of the battery and brake system. The new plastic tank with a capacity of 240 liters of diesel is located on the right-hand side under the steps. The new engines of the OM 364 A and OM 904 LA series are characterized by more power with lower fuel consumption, a nominal speed of 2400 rpm and high torque . The revised gearbox is easier to switch.

The light and medium series is equipped with the Pneumo-Power switch. A synchronized planetary group transmission with the same forward and reverse gears is used in the heavy series. For the first time, the medium series will have a transmission oil cooler. In addition to the standard power lift system is available as optional equipment for medium and heavy series one EHR ( e lectronic H ubwerks r egelung).

The tractor meter is new in the comfort safety cab. For the first time in tractor construction, the combination instrument has a digital speed display using transmitted light technology.

Current models

  • WF trac 2040 4 × 4 (204 HP)
  • WF trac 2040 6 × 6 (204 HP)
  • WF trac 2460 4 × 4 (238 hp)
  • WF trac 2460 6 × 6 (238 HP)

The new generation of the WF Trac received a revised and enlarged cabin. Furthermore, the design was revised and the WF Trac received new engines. Currently there is a Mercedes-Benz 4-cylinder engine with 4.8 liters displacement and 800 Nm torque in the weaker model and a Mercedes-Benz 6-cylinder engine with 7.2 liters displacement, 238 hp and 850 in the more powerful model Nm torque is used. Both engines use an SCR catalytic converter and thus comply with emission level EURO 3b. The WF Tracs have a hydropneumatic front axle suspension with stub axle steering (with the 6 × 6 additionally with a steered bogie axle ) and can reach speeds of up to 50 km / h. The new cabin can be rotated 270 ° and is ROPS and FOPS tested.
