WGN is a clear-channel US radio station based in Chicago , Illinois . The station belongs to the Tribune Broadcasting and is considered the flagship of the Tribune Media .

The Tribune Media also operates WGN America (Channel 9) and the regional news channel Chicagoland Television (CLTV).

The radio station is licensed on medium wave for 720 k Hz and transmits with 50 k W , u. a. in HD .

In 1934, the station was one of the four founding stations of the Mutual Broadcasting System , which was initially set up for the exchange of program parts between the stations.

Steve Cochran is one of the most famous talk hosts at WGN. In 2016 he was ranked 49th on the "Heavy Hundred" talkhosts. The show is being syndicated across the US.
