WOW is an international strategic aviation alliance of cargo airlines . SAS Cargo is currently the only remaining member.
history
WOW was founded in April 2000 under the project name New Global Cargo by Lufthansa Cargo , Singapore Airlines Cargo and SAS Cargo . The later name WOW is not an abbreviation, but is intended to reflect dynamism and innovation. Freight capacities, for example, are jointly marketed under the WOW umbrella. Since October 1, 2001, the products of the three founding airlines have been fully integrated. In July 2002 JAL Cargo joined the alliance.
In March 2008, the then CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, Carsten Spohr , announced that the airline would reduce its activities in the WOW alliance. Cooperation with the WOW partners has become superfluous, since the route networks of the individual companies are now dense enough. In addition, the freight alliance never worked as well as that of the Star Alliance model in the passenger area. This is not least due to the lack of reservation systems and customer loyalty programs. Lufthansa Cargo announced that it would remove the WOW logo and the WOW paintwork of the company's own McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as part of routine maintenance. In 2009 Lufthansa Cargo officially left the alliance. In 2010, JAL Cargo was also eliminated, as Japan Airlines stopped freight traffic as part of its restructuring.
Currently only Singapore Airlines Cargo operates its own cargo aircraft, SAS Cargo only markets free cargo capacities in the passenger aircraft of the SAS Group.
