WQXR is the New York Public Radio's classical radio station from New York City and one of the oldest FM stations in the world. Classical music by old and new composers is broadcast. "The Classical Radio Station from NYC" sends from Newark (New Jersey) from 105.9 M Hz with 0.610 k W .
history
WQXR started operations in 1964 as WHBI . WQXR-FM was the FM variant of the "high-fidelity" medium wave station WQXR 1560 kHz, which had already started broadcasting in 1936.
At the end of 2016, listeners complained about problems with receiving the station. A pirate station disrupted the WQXR program with its program, which consisted of recitations from the Torah . According to the New York State Broadcaster's Association, around a hundred pirate stations operate in New York with a particularly high density in Brooklyn.
As a digital channel, WQXR broadcasts the program "Q2 Music" on its HD2 channel.
