WRNO (also WRNO Worldwide) is a commercial shortwave station in Metairie , Louisiana. It is transmitted with 50 kW on the shortwave frequency 7505 kHz. WRNO is also the callsign of a VHF station in New Orleans. Both stations were founded by Joseph Costello III. WRNO is renting its airtime. In addition to religious programs, the Rush Limbaugh Show was also broadcast.
history
WRNO started under the callsign in 1982 as a commercial music station on shortwave. The FCC had not licensed any private shortwave transmitters in the US for a long time until WRNO. First a separate rock format was produced for WRMO, later the program was taken over by WRNO-FM. In the early 1990s, the station rented airtime to religious producers and political programs such as Rush Limbaugh's program. After the failure of the rock music concept, the station was sold to missionaries from Texas in 2001. After the existing transmission technology was no longer in permanent operation, a new transmitter was installed by a company in Costa Rica in 2005 . However, its commissioning initially failed due to the effects of cyclone Katrina .
It was not until 2008 that WRNO started broadcasting programs again. Even afterwards, technical problems and long failures remained the order of the day. When the transmitter was put into operation again in 2016, the radio technician , who also wants to reactivate the shortwave station KJES in New Mexico , participated as a consultant .
