The Georgia Jamboree was an American country show broadcast by WSB of Atlanta , Georgia .

history

WSB was already known in the 1920s for having numerous old-time musicians appear in its program. This had made the station extremely successful and achieved high audience ratings.

In the early 1930s, barn dance shows began to be broadcast, as had WLS with the National Barn Dance or WSM with the Grand Ole Opry . For a while, the old-time band Carolina Tarheels had their own show, Carolina Tarheel's Broom Dance . After that show was canceled, the Georgia Jamborees began broadcasting in September 1933 .

The Georgia Jamboree was held every Saturday night in a variety of Atlanta theaters and auditoriums. A sequence of the show was broadcast live via WSB. In addition to the Carolina Tarheels, who now performed here, Hoke Rice and his brother Paul as well as the Tweedy Brothers could be heard regularly in the Jamboree. However, this show was not limited to rural music; rather, a mix of artists from different genres appeared.

The show was canceled in March 1934, making it one of the most short-lived programs of its type. The Georgia Jamboree, however, was the prelude to various other live country shows such as the Fulton County Jamboree , Pop Eckler's Radio Jamboree or the famous WSB Barn Dance .
