The Wohnsportgemeinschaft Magdeburg-Reform e. V. is a German sports club based in Reform , a district of the Saxony-Anhalt state capital Magdeburg .

history

The club was formed in 1978 from a teaching team at the Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium, at that time the club mainly comprised the departments of volleyball and soccer . Floorball was added in 1999 and table tennis in 2001 .

Departments

Floorball

The floorball department plays in competitions under the name Floorball Tigers Magdeburg . The department originally came from an AG of the Werner von Siemens high school in Magdeburg . In order to participate in the league operations, a department within the WSG was founded. The first beginnings were made in the small field league of Saxony-Anhalt, in which a sixth place in the playoffs could be achieved. Due to a lack of players one had to withdraw from the league for a while and could only participate in the local cup, but this got better over time and more teams were formed.

In 2006, a team took part in the main field for the first time and was able to finish in 2nd place within this league. The 2010/11 season was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time, as the Magdeburg team were the only ones who had applied for promotion. In the east, however, the team finished the season with only 7 points in eighth and thus last place in the table. However, the next season was again finished in third place with 25 points.

The team finished the 2015/15 season in fifth place with 7 points. After the 2016/17 season they ended up in sixth and penultimate place in the table with 6 points. For organizational reasons, however, the department's team withdrew to the regional league . After that, it went even further down. For the 2019/20 season , he was promoted to the Regionalliga Ost again . Due to the eighth place in the table, the team should have actually participated in the relegation. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , this did not take place.

The club has been represented very often in the cup since the start of the competition. In the first season 2007/08 they got into the 2nd round, but were defeated there by the Red Devils Wernigerode 6: 7. After that you took part in every further organization of the cup, but never got beyond the second round. It was not until the 2013/14 season that the second round started by bye, which was also successfully completed. In the round of 16, however, the end was reached after a 8: 7 at TV Schriesheim . In the later seasons you could never get that far in competition.

Soccer

The soccer department has existed within the WSG since 1995, but has only a few active members. As a result, the club and the department only take part in indoor and small-field tournaments.

Table tennis

The table tennis department has existed since 2001. The first men's team is currently playing in the 1st city class, and the second team in the 4th city class.

volleyball

The volleyball department is one of the oldest in the club. The first men's team currently plays in the regional league, the first women's team, which was founded in the 2015/16 season, also currently plays in the regional league.
