The Red Devils Wernigerode are a floorball team from Wernigerode in the Harz district ( Saxony-Anhalt ).
history
The team was founded on August 23, 1998 as a department of the Wernigerode sports club Rot-Weiß . In 2002 the team was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time . There the Red Devils were initially able to hold four seasons, before relegation followed in 2007 . After two years in the 2nd Bundesliga , the team rose again to the top tier of German college hockey in the 2009/10 season and achieved third place in 2010, the best season performance in the club's history to date. In the following season 2010/11 this could even be topped by winning the German championship. After the main and championship round, the Red Devils took second place in the table behind series champion UHC Weißenfels. In the play-off semifinals, the Red Devils prevailed with 2-0 wins against SG BA Tempelhof and reached the final, while Weißenfels was surprisingly eliminated by the Löwen Leipzig. In the two finals between Leipzig and Wernigerode, the Red Devils achieved two wins with 7: 5 and 5: 4, which meant that they won the championship.
The second team entered the Regionalliga Ost in 2010/11.
In 2014 the association had 200 members.
Women's team
Since 2008 there is also a women's team with the Lady Devils . In the 2011/2012 season, a training cooperation was agreed with the neighboring club TSG GutsMuths Quedlinburg, which resulted in the SG Floorball Harz playing community . The women and girls competed under this name in the Regionalliga-Ost Kleinfeld until the 2015/2016 season. From 2015 the Lady Devils competed alone in the Regionalliga-Ost.
From the 2016/2017 season, a syndicate with the Floorfighters Chemnitz started in the Regionalliga Großfeld.
In 2017 and 2019, the Red Devils U17 girls' team won the German championship. In 2019, the Red Devils registered their women's team for the Bundesliga in order to offer the very successful young players the highest possible level of play.
