Wabasca River is a right tributary of the Peace River in the north of the Canadian province of Alberta .
The catchment area of the river is 36,300 km². The mean annual runoff varies greatly from year to year. At the Wadlin Lake Road gauge , an average value of 93 m³ / s was measured over a period of 30 years.
The Wabasca River has its origin in Sandy Lake , northeast of Slave Lake . From there it flows in a north-westerly direction. It flows through the South Wabasca Lake , passes the place Wabasca-Desmarais , and then flows through the North Wabasca Lake . It continues its course in a northerly direction through boreal forests and swamplands. Finally, about 35 km east of Fort Vermilion, it meets the Peace River coming from the west.
