Wadjkare was an ancient Egyptian king ( pharaoh ) of the 8th Dynasty during the First Intermediate Period . He is considered an obscure ruler.

identity

Wadjkare is only recorded by name once. A small, inscribed limestone plaque , known as Koptos Decree R ( Cairo Museum ; Obj. JE 41894 ), contains a royal decree which the king is said to have written himself. In it the ruler lists punishments and condemnations against those who should dare to desecrate or steal from the temple of Min-von-Koptos . From an archaeological and Egyptological point of view, however, the decree is not considered reliable, since the Horus name Djemed-ib-taui and the cartouche name Wadjkare are not mentioned together in one sentence, contrary to the usual conventions. In addition, the name Wadjkare does not appear in any later king list. For this reason, the existence of a ruler named Wadjkare is already in doubt.

Farouk Gomaà and Georges Hayes assign the Horus name Djemed-ib-taui to a ruler named Neferirkare II , and Wadjkare equate them with a certain Hor- Chabau . Hans Goedicke sees Wadjkare as the predecessor of Djemed-ib-taui and assigns both to the 9th dynasty.
