Wahbach valley

The Wahbachtal is a nature reserve in the town of Bad Laasphe in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district (Bad Laasphe and Hesselbach district ). The 26.8 hectare area was placed under nature protection in 1987 by the Lower Landscape Authority and the Forestry Office of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district.

The nature reserve follows the course of the Wahbach . It has a narrow width of about 50 m at the most, but stretches a few hundred meters in length along the course of the stream. In the upper area is the single settlement Ditzrod .

Objectives of the protected area

The nature reserve is intended to preserve or restore lean and moist grassland. This also includes "swelling alder floodplain forest areas and beech forest areas ". In particular, the following species and habitats should be protected:

  • Borstgrasweide , which is endangered
  • Springs and near-natural rivers
  • Rough meadows and pastures in the form of mountain oat meadows and red fescue pastures
  • Wet meadows and pastures in the form of forest rush meadows and rush meadows
  • Flat moors and reed beds
  • Großseggenrieder
  • Kleinseggen swamps in the form of Kleinseggenriedern
  • moist tall herbaceous corridors in the form of meadowsweet corridors
  • Alder - alluvial forest

Protective measures

Additional protective measures include: a. stipulated that the gray alder stocks should be removed and restrictions placed on the management of the meadows.
