Election to the United States Senate in Alabama 2020

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alabama Senate election is slated to be held on November 3, 2020 to elect a Senator for the state of Alabama . The election will coincide with the 2020 presidential election, as well as other elections for the United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, and other state and local elections.

Incumbent Doug Jones , elected in a special election in 2017, will run for re-election. Jones is one of two Democratic senators running for re-election from a state where President Donald Trump won in 2016 . The other senator is Gary Peters from Michigan .

Doug Jones is the Senator most likely to lose his Senate seat in the elections, as Alabama is one of the states that mostly elects Republicans. The last Democratic Senator from Alabama was Howell T. Heflin , who served from 1979 to 1997.
