The true viewing station in Koblenz-Pfaffendorf

The truth viewing station in Koblenz was a signal point for the ship bridge about 2 km down the Rhine and was in operation from 1907 to 1947. It is located in the Pfaffendorf district directly on the Rhine and was one of many stations in the context of the Wahrschau on the Middle Rhine that regulated Rhine shipping.

history

The ship bridge in Koblenz has crossed the Rhine since 1819. Ships traveling downstream were reported to the ship bridge by gunfire at the level of the Horchheimer railway bridge completed in 1879 , which then extended two or three yokes to allow the ships to pass.

The truth-viewing station was built in 1907 in Pfaffendorf and was the official seat of a true-scout . This now informed the ship bridge about downstream ships by phone . When the ship bridge was open or closed, he used a flag to signal the ships to continue or to stop. In 1947, after the Second World War, the veritable viewing station ceased its service with the abandonment of the last French pontoon bridge in place of the ship bridge that had been destroyed in 1945.

construction

The true viewing station is a single-storey red brick building on a square floor plan , located directly on the Rhine . The base was built from greywacke and the jamb as a decorative framework. The building has a slate-covered pyramid roof with carved corner rafters and gallows windows with muntins.

Monument protection

The observation station is a protected cultural monument according to the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in Koblenz-Pfaffendorf at (opposite) Emser Straße 176 .

The museum has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002 .
