The Waiag Islands ( Indonesian Kepulauan Wayag , also Wajag ) are a group of islands in the Indonesian archipelago Raja Ampat . The islands protrude from the sea in a dome shape and are covered with thick vegetation.
geography
The Raja Ampat archipelago is located northwest of the Vogelkop Peninsula of New Guinea. The Waiag Islands form the north-western end of the archipelago. To the southeast are the islands of Waigeo and Kawe . The islands belong to the district ( Kecamatan ) West Waigeo Mainland ( Waigeo Barat Daratan ) in the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) Raja Ampat (province West Papua ). To the northwest is Sayang Island , which no longer belongs to Raja Ampat.
The main island of Waiag is surrounded by numerous smaller islands and rocks. To the east, the archipelago runs in a chain with the larger islands Jin ( In ), Ouoy , Bag and Urame (formerly Matje ).
