The Waimangaroa River is a river in the Buller District in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island.

It rises in the so-called Happy Valley east of the extensive areas of the open-cast mining area of the Stockton Mine and one kilometer south of a reservoir that does not belong to the river system and drains to the north. The upper reaches of the Happy Valley are also called Cypress Stream . It flows first in a southerly direction through the low mountain range of the Mount William Range .

It takes in several backwaters, including the Whirlwind Stream , Herbert Stream , Webb Stream , Ernest Stream , L75 Stream , Wilson Creek and Cedar Creek . At an abandoned mine near Cedar Creek Saddle , it changes its course to the northwest and flows north past the mining settlements of Burnetts Face and Denniston . Tributaries in this area are Deep Stream , Gomorrah Creek , Hut Stream , Burnett Stream, and Conns Creek .

In the lower reaches of the Waimangaroa River near the village of Waimangaroa, the New Zealand State Highway 67 and the Stillwater-Westport-Line freight railroad bridge, takes in the Kiwi Creek and flows into the Tasman Sea shortly afterwards .
