Waitakere City FC is a New Zealand football club from Waitakere City , one of the most successful clubs in the country.
history
The club was founded in 1989 to represent the West Auckland region in the New Zealand National Soccer League . Initially the club was based in Western Springs, but in 1991 a merger with Massey AFC followed and the club moved to Fred Taylor Park in Waitakere, where it still plays today. In 1990 Waitakere City FC won the New Zealand championship for the first time, further titles followed in 1992, 1995, 1996 and 1997. In 1994 the club also won the Chatham Cup , in 1995 and 1996 the New Zealand cup competition could also be won.
The club holds the record with most wins in a season along with Mount Wellington and Christchurch United . In 1996 the club won 20 of its 26 season games.
