The Wakasa Mikata Jōmon Museum ( Japanese 若 狭 三方 縄 文 博物館 , Wakasa Mikata Jōmon Hakubutsukan ; other name: Dokidoki-kan ( DOKIDOKI 館 )) is an archaeological museum in Wakasa , in Fukui Prefecture , Japan . The museum is dedicated to the artifacts Jōmon time from the mollusk of the excavation site in Torihama ( 鳥浜貝塚 , Torihama Kaizuka ) and the exhibition of varves , so of annual layers that sedimentation of a year from Lake Suigetsu, one of the "five lakes Mikata ”( 三方 五 湖 , Mikata-goko ). The oldest varves are 70,000 years old. The first director of the museum was Takeshi Umehara .

The museum focuses on the Jōmon culture, which is represented by the artifacts from the excavation and the stratigraphy of the mollusc heaps in Torihama. The exhibits also include artifacts from the Yuri archaeological site ( ユ リ 遺跡 , Yuri iseki ). In addition to earthenware and dogu , dugouts were also excavated there. In Torihama, wooden remains from the Jōmon period were also found in 1376, which were declared an important cultural asset of Japan.

The museum also presents the research carried out by the Ritsumeikan University Paleoclimatological Center under the direction of Takeshi Nakagawa.
