The Forest and Forest Museum is a museum in Heidelbeck , a district of the municipality of Kalletal in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

description

The idea to set up a forest and forest museum arose in the 1970s. The museum opened in September 1985. The main building of the museum is the former water mill of Heidelbeck Castle, which dates back to 1537 and is also a listed building. The mill was previously used by the Lippe regional association as a forester's house. The museum also has a half-timbered house from 1733 and a frame saw from the 19th century.

The museum's collection includes the themes of forest, forest and hunting. The presentation of the regional animal species by means of preparations as well as their endangerment by human intervention are a focus of the exhibition. Furthermore, the development of hunting weapons and hunting methods from the Middle Ages to modern times is documented. The development of forestry is shown on the basis of historical silviculture equipment. The permanent exhibition "Historical fisheries and water science in Lippe" deals with Stephan Ludwig Jacobi , the founder of artificial insemination in fish farming. There are also special exhibitions that change every year.

The museum has been operated jointly by the Lippe regional association and the municipality of Kalletal since 1992. Museum season is from Good Friday to November 1st, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and for groups by appointment.
