The forest of Plaka ( Greek Δάσος Πλάκας Dásos Plákas ; also called peacock forest ) is located near Andimachia on the island of Kos in Greece .

Location

The forest of Plaka is located near the airport of the island of Kos approximately in the middle of the island in a natural depression at an altitude between 50  m to 90  m above sea level. The distance to Kos airport is about 2.5 km as the crow flies, 3.5 km to Andimachia and about 11 km as the crow flies to Kefalos .

The forest is also a popular destination for the locals. The access is via a junction from the main road from Kos to Kefalos. After the airport (in the direction of Kefalos) there is an easy-to-miss sign "Plaka" to the right to this junction. This road is partly in bad condition (partly gravel) and passes a quarry.

Flora and fauna

The contiguous part of the forest consists largely of pine trees and has an area of over 30 hectares (forest area). The forest is freely accessible during the day.

There is a picnic area on the road leading through here, where there are free-living, very trusting peacocks. Therefore the forest is also called peacock forest . Many cats live here with the peacocks. Wild turtles can be found in a small pond and a nearby wetland.
