The Waldbühne Sohland is an amateur theater open-air stage in the municipality of Sohland on the Spree in the Bautzen district in Saxony . The open-air stage is supported by the Association of Interest Group Waldbühne Sohland-Schirgiswalde eV In the 1920s, the forest theater was performed by its own ensemble.

The Waldbühne is located half a kilometer west of Ellersdorf on the slope of the Kälberstein massif . To the south are the ramparts of the Sohland Castle , in the southwest of the Sohland reservoir .

history

After the First World War, a natural stage was created at the Teufelskanzel in the Sohlander Forest. The first performances on the “Felsenbühne at the Teufelskanzel” took place in 1920 with a puppet show and the fairy tale “ The brave little tailor ”. The stage was officially inaugurated on May 17, 1921.

One of the most successful seasons of the Felsenbühne, which was played with its own ensemble, was 1922. After Wally Senff-Georgi from the Dresden State Theater took over the management of the theater in 1924 , young professional actors played on the Felsenbühne. In 1926 u. a. Viktor de Kowa on the rock stage ensemble. As a result of the global economic crisis , gaming was stopped in 1930.

After a 60-year break, theater enthusiasts from Sohland and Schirgiswalde decided to revive the Waldbühne in 1991 and founded the Waldbühne Sohland-Schirgiswalde eV interest group. The Schirgiswalder Cabaret formed the theater association Spielgemeinschaft Schirgiswalde eV in the same year .

The formal reopening of the Waldbühne took place on July 7, 1991 with the performance of the fairy tale play The Princess and the Swineherd by the Sohland Children's Theater. The Schirgiswalde gambling community performed the comedy “Die Räuberfalle” in the same month.

Since then, the Waldbühne Sohland has been played annually from May to September. The performances were attended by over 4,000 spectators each season.

Actors and performances

The Sohland children's stage was one of the permanent play ensembles of the Waldbühne from 1991 to 2001 and led a. a. the fairy tales King Drosselbart , Snow White and Rose Red , Sleeping Beauty , The Bremen Town Musicians and Cinderella .

The Schirgiswalde gaming community has been one of the Waldbühne's permanent gaming ensembles since 1991. Every year, she performs a new comedy or adventure piece written especially for the Waldbühne. These included u. a. “Siegfried mustn't burst”, “Snow White and the 7 Shareholders”, “Conference of the Ghosts” and many more.

Since 1995, the Sohland dialect group has also been one of the Waldbühne's permanent game ensembles. She led u. a. the Upper Lusatian dialect pieces Dr gefrelte Voater, Dr hibsche Peter, A dr Gehoansnacht, Ba uns Scheechts, Anne pre-wired Froe, and others.

The cabaret Die Oberlauser and the theater group Mimen-Fundus NEO from Löbau have been performing on the Waldbühne since 2015.

There are also regular performances by the Glöckchen puppet theater from Moritzburg .
