The Waldbahn Naßwald was a museum railway in the municipality of Schwarzau im Gebirge , district Naßwald , in Lower Austria . The system was operated by the association for the maintenance of forest and field railways in 600 mm gauge . In contrast to most museum railways, this railway system had no historical model and was not built on an existing route of a disused railway . The line was built specifically for museum railroad operations between 1985 and 1986. Some of the track material came from a park railway that was set up briefly in the Gänserndorf Safari Park .

The system was an example of a forest railway with which in the first half of the 20th century felled wood was brought from the forests to the settlements, sawmills or train stations. Four diesel locomotives and an electric ( accumulator ) locomotive , three passenger cars and some freight wagons were available as vehicles. The railway line was about 800 meters long, had a gauge of 600 mm and led from the center of Naßwald into the Heufuss valley. A project to extend the railway itself to the forest huts in Heufuss (total length of 2 km) was not implemented for financial reasons, as the construction of a short tunnel or, alternatively, two bridges over the Heufussbach would have been necessary.

After the expiry of lease contracts that were not extended by the landowners, the Waldbahn Naßwald ceased operations on May 1, 2008. The track system had to be removed by the end of 2008. The rolling stock was picked up in summer / autumn 2009. The rolling stock is currently parked in the Historama, Museum of Technology and Transport in Ferlach . It is planned to build a small field railway line on the museum grounds there so that train operations can be resumed.
