The Waldbauernverband Nordrhein-Westfalen eV , based in Münster , has been the free association of private forest owners in North Rhine-Westphalia since it was founded in 1947 .

In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) 150,000 forest owners manage around 600,000 hectares of private forest . With a private forest share of 67%, it is the federal state with the highest private forest share in the Federal Republic of Germany. As its members representing the interests of its members in terms of forest policy, the aim of the forest farmers' association is to secure, promote and increase the efficiency of private forests. At the same time, he strives to strengthen forest ownership with its diverse uses, protection and recreational functions.

The forest farmers' association advocates the economic use of forests in North Rhine-Westphalia through sustainable forestry, even in the field of tension between different political interests. The Warburg Agreement is an example of how to balance a conflict of interest between private management and nature conservation . Another concern of the association is to sensitize forest owners as primary producers, as well as consumers and builders as buyers, to the economic and ecological advantages of the raw material wood and to communicate forest management as the basis of an important value chain . In North Rhine-Westphalia, the forest and wood cluster with its forest-wood processing chain comprises 257,000 jobs.
