The Waldeckpark is located in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg in the street block Alexandrinenstrasse , Alte Jakobstrasse and Oranienstrasse . On its western side it touches the grounds of the Bundesdruckerei .

history

The approximately two hectare site was created around 1604 as a plague cemetery for the Petri community . Little by little, the cemetery became a green area, some of which could be used free of charge by the Cölln residents from 1870 onwards. 29 years later the park was expanded and was given the current name Waldeckpark. It is intended to commemorate the liberal politician Benedikt Waldeck , whose memory a memorial was erected in the park.
