Waldemar Dege

Waldemar Dege (born February 26, 1934 in Supraśl , Powiat Białostocki , Poland ; † November 17, 1999 in Berlin ) was a German mathematician , specialist translator, popular science author , literary translator , poet and poet in the GDR .

life and work

After various interim stays in transit camps, Dege and his family were relocated from Supraśl to Luckenwalde . Here he attended elementary and high school until 1952, where he wrote his first poems. From 1952 to 1957 he studied mathematics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and worked as a co-author on the translation of Russian textbooks. Then he was employed as a mathematician in the GDR aircraft industry in Pirna. From 1959 to 1978 he built up the EDP in the VEB Turbines and Generators and wrote a popular science book about the development of electronic data processing during this time . First poems were published and private readings of his works took place. He began to translate poetry from Eastern European languages ​​in 1979, and he also got his first post-poetry orders. As a freelance lyricist and re-poet, Dege published from 1980 to 1999 for Eulenspiegel-Verlag . Many of his song-like texts were set to music. Over half of his work remained unpublished at first. They were printed in 2000 and in 2003 included in the archive for suppressed literature in the GDR, which is currently being established.
