Valdemar Tomaševski (until 2010 Valdemaras Tomaševskis , Polish Waldemar Tomaszewski ; born March 3, 1965 in Vilnius , Lithuania ) is a Lithuanian politician of Polish nationality.

Life

Valdemar Tomaševski belongs to the Polish minority in Lithuania . After graduating from the 11th Vilnius Middle School in 1983 , he studied at the Faculty of Mechanics of the Vilnius University of Technology until 1990 . From 1984 to 1986 he served in the Soviet Army.

From 1995 to 1997, from 1997 to 2000, from 2000 to 2003 Tomaševski was a member of the council of the district council of Vilnius , 2000 deputy mayor . From 2000 to 2004 and 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the Seimas . He has been a member of the EP since 2009. Tomaszewski is the chairman of the Lietuvos lenkų rinkimų akcija (LLRA) party, which represents the Polish minority in the country. He was twice a candidate for President of Lithuania (in the Lithuanian presidential election in 2014 and 2019 ).

Tomaševski is a member of the board of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.

Tomaševski is vice-chairman of the delegation for relations with Belarus and a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and of the delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly . He is a deputy on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and on the delegation for relations with the United States.
