The Brussels Affair '73 Some Girls - Live In Texas '78
(2011)

The Brussels Affair '73 is a live album recorded in 1973 as part of the Rolling Stones ' European tour and released on November 17, 2011. It contains a compilation of recordings of two concerts the band gave on October 17, 1973 in the Arena Forest National in Brussels . An album with the title Brussels Affair 1973 with recordings of these performances had already found distribution as blackmail and gave the authorized album its name. After initially being offered as a download only, the album was also released on LP in 2012 as part of various limited-edition box sets .

history

During the European tour, which took place from September 1 to October 19, 1973, the French government refused the Rolling Stones entry to France because Keith Richards had come into conflict with the law over drugs. The band therefore gave one of two concerts in the Forest National in Brussels on October 17, 1973 especially for French fans. They were able to travel to the Belgian capital using special trains rented from RTL Radio .

Both appearances were professionally recorded. The Rolling Stones' plans to compile a live album from it were not realized until 2011. However, there were various bootlegs with recordings of the concerts, including albums with the names Bedspring Symphony , The Rolling Stones in concert 1973 and Brussels Affair 1973 . The source for the bootlegs was, among other things, the American radio program King Biscuit Flower Hour , in which the professional recordings of the first concert in the afternoon were broadcast. From the second concert only a few songs were circulated in significantly poorer quality.

It was not until 2011 that an authorized release came about, for which Bob Clearmountain created the final mix of the concert recordings that Andy Johns had made in the Rolling Stones mobile studio. The album was offered for sale in the USA on November 16, 2011 by the Internet service Google Music as the first of a series of six concert albums by the band. The download albums of this Rolling Stones Bootleg Series with previously unpublished recordings are distributed exclusively via the Google Play online shop (in which Google Music has been integrated since March 2012, until then the online shop was via Android Market ). Only customers from countries where Google Play is not available can buy the concerts in collaboration with Google Music in the online shop of the Rolling Stones Archive , a website launched on November 17th. At the time of publication, this affected all customers outside the US; Since November 13, 2012, German customers can purchase the albums via Google Play. The Stones Archive is operated by Bravado, Universal Music's merchandising company .

Because of the popularity of the well-known black press, “Brussels Affair” was retained in the title. However, the content of the album differs from this and the other bootleg releases that existed before. The covers for the album shown in the Rolling Stones Archive and on Google Play vary in terms of naming: in the Rolling Stones Archive it is titled The Brussels Affair '73 , on Google Play the title Brussels Affair (Live 1973) .

Includes a combination of recordings from the band's first and second performance. Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) , Dancing with Mr. D , Star Star and Angie are songs from the 1973 studio album Goats Head Soup , which was followed by the European tour.
