A Bigger Bang is the 22nd studio album by the rock band Rolling Stones . It was released on September 5, 2005. The title was announced to the waiting fans on July 27 of that year in New York. It contains 16 new songs.

The Rolling Stones present a wide range of rock and blues songs on their album A Bigger Bang . With the new album, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are continuing their now historic songwriting partnership.

In autumn 2004, the two began working on the new songs. Charlie Watts and Ron Wood joined them later in the studio . A Bigger Bang is the first studio album since Bridges to Babylon, which was written eight years earlier . During the recording process last year, the band was reportedly intrigued by theories of how the universe came about. The album title A Bigger Bang reflects this fascination.

Central pieces on the album are probably the first single Streets Of Love , Back Of My Hand , a raw, earthy blues or the rock title Rough Justice . Keith Richards takes on the lead vocals on This Place Is Empty and Infamy .

In contrast to the last releases, the Stones on A Bigger Bang are rarely supported by guest musicians. Even Darryl Jones isn't always there as a bass guitarist; Mick Jagger (who can also be heard as a slide guitarist for the first time), Ron Wood or Keith Richards took over this part at times.

The album was produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins - a pseudonym for Jagger / Richards. Don Was was already responsible as co-producer of the albums Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon , as well as for the new songs on the greatest hits compilation Forty Licks . He also worked as co-producer on the live album Stripped and on the double live CD Live Licks .

A Bigger Bang reached first place in the charts in Germany and Austria.

tour

The Rolling Stones started their world tour - which is named after the album title - on August 21, 2005 in Boston . The tour included North, Central and South America, Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America again in autumn 2006 and Europe again in summer 2007. To date, A Bigger Bang has been the most successful tour ever with revenues of around USD 550,000,000. This record was surpassed in 2011 by the U2 360 Tour .

From July 27, 2006, the four DVDs The Biggest Bang went on sale. Concert recordings from Rio de Janeiro and Austin (Texas) are on two of the DVDs . The third contains concert recordings from Japan, China and Argentina. The fourth DVD offers a documentation of the world tour.
