The Rolling Stones No. 2 is the second in the UK published studio album of the Rolling Stones . It was released on January 15, 1965 by Decca Records in Great Britain (LK 4661) and shortly afterwards in Germany. There was no publication in the USA; on the LP The Rolling Stones, Now! released on February 13, 1965 in the USA however, seven songs from The Rolling Stones No. 2 included.

Album history

The Rolling Stones No. 2 followed the proven concept of The Rolling Stones , the very successful debut album from 1964. The song material consists of nine rhythm and blues cover versions as well as three original compositions, which the potential, the ambitions and the self-confidence of the young songwriter duo Mick Jagger and Keith Richards show.

The twelve tracks of the very coherent and stylistically closed album were recorded from June 10 to November 2, 1964 in Regent Sound Studios in London, in Chess Studios in Chicago and in RCA Studios in Hollywood. In contrast to the debut album, which was recorded in just one studio, the pieces also differ in sound in some cases.

The front of the cover shows the five members of the Rolling Stones (back, from left to right, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts and Brian Jones, in the foreground Bill Wyman and Keith Richards). On the back, the five are shown individually in simple black and white photos. The cover photos are from British photographer David Bailey , a friend of Jagger; the - sometimes bizarre - text on the back of the album was written by Andrew Loog Oldham . As with the previous album, neither the band name nor the album title are shown on the front cover - a completely new and unusual idea from band manager Andrew Loog Oldham at the time.

As with the debut album, The Rolling Stones reached No. 2 No. 1 on the UK LP charts where it held for 37 weeks. In Germany, it was the band's first album to take first place in the LP charts.
