Walden Charles Martin (born September 28, 1891 in Grayville , Illinois , † November 1966 in Zephyrhills , Florida ) was an American cyclist .

Walden Martin was one of the best amateurs of his time in America. He competed several times in national championships. In qualifying for the Olympic Games in Stockholm , he finished second behind Carl Schutte , whom he had beaten several times before. In the Olympic road race around 300 kilometers around Lake Mälaren , he needed 11 hours, 23 minutes and 55.5 seconds, around 45 minutes longer than the winner, Rudolph Lewis from South Africa. He finished 17th in the individual race and together with Schutte, Alvin Loftes and Albert Krushel won the bronze medal in the team classification (the times of the four best drivers in a national team were added).

In February 1913, Martin was involved in an accident together with driver Frederick Windt when the two were taking part in a race on the Velodrome at St. Louis Coliseum ; Windt was killed in the process and Martin lost a leg. From then on, Martin competed in cycling races with a wooden leg ( peg-leg in English ), which is why he was nicknamed Peg .
