Forest Island Castle
The natural monument Waldinsel Burg (also known as Burg ) is located in the Burg parcel in the municipality of Schnepfau in the Bregenz Forest , Vorarlberg , Austria . It is a wooded limestone head made of Helvetian quinter limestone , as can also be found, for example, in the nearby Kanisfluh . Due to the hardness of the rock , the Bregenzerwald glacier could not completely erode this limestone rock during the last ice age .

The Burg parcel and the natural monument are located near the L200 Bregenzerwaldstraße at about 740 m above sea level. A. and the natural monument can be clearly seen from there. The center of Schnepfau is about 600 meters to the northwest as the crow flies , the Bregenzer Ache about 200 meters to the southwest. The limestone rock head, which is almost completely overgrown with mixed deciduous forest, is about 20 meters high. The limestone head was placed under protection in 1989.
