Waldmark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waldmark was a historical area between the Moldau and the Steinernen Mühl in today's Mühlviertel in Upper Austria .

In 1113, the Vltava was established as the border river between the Altbaiern and Bohemia in a document from the Passau bishop . The forest area between the Moldau, the Steinernen Mühl in the east and the Große Mühl in the west was called Waldmark and was a Bavarian area. At that time the Waldmark comprised the entire Bohemian Forest ridge with its northern and southern slopes. The name Waldmark was first mentioned around 1100 in the course of the clearing.

In 1255 the border between Bohemia and what is now (Upper) Austria was redefined under Ottokar II . The border was moved to the Bohemian Forest ridge, as a result of which around half of the forest march, the entire area north of the ridge, came to Bohemia. The border established at that time still exists today between the states of Austria and the Czech Republic .

Today the three communities Afiesl , Sankt Stefan am Walde and Schönegg refer to themselves as Waldmark communities. They also founded a joint sports club called TSU Waldmark.
