The Waldowpark is located in the Berlin district of Mahlsdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district . It is named after Wilhelm von Waldow (1856–1937), a Prussian lawyer and civil servant. To the east of the park is the old Mahlsdorf parish church .
history
The park was created at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of Mahlsdorf estate farmer Gustav Lange. After the end of the Second World War , Lange was expropriated by the SMAD and the park area became public property . In the 1950s, an LPG was growing potatoes on part of the property. The other part served as a junkyard. The surviving trees, mainly linden and weeping willows , were largely preserved.
After the political change , the Green Spaces Office first checked the traffic safety and reopened the site to the public in November 1996.
The pond , the Waldower Weiher , was exposed in 1997 and a careful pruning was carried out. In 2001 the pond was connected to a drainage system in a shopping center located on Bundesstrasse 1 in order to ensure the water supply over the long term.
Due to the long dry period in July 2014, however, there was very little water in the pool.
