The old people's and nursing home Waldsanatorium Planegg - despite its name, is located in the territory of the municipality of Krailling - is owned by the Order of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent led by Paul .

history

The forest sanatorium was opened on November 19, 1898 as the first public health resort in Bavaria . Going back to an idea by Hugo von Ziemssen and under the protectorate of Prince Ludwig , an association for people's sanctuaries was founded on December 2, 1894, which promoted the Krailling sanatorium. The forest sanatorium was built from 1896 to 1898 under the architect Michael Dosch . The foundation stone was laid on November 5, 1896.

The management of the house was entrusted to the Sisters of Mercy, and Sister Theophila became the first superior. The house chapel, which is dedicated to Saint Vincent de Paul , was built in 1924 and consecrated by Simon Konrad Landersdorfer on September 28 of the same year .

From 1898 to 1984, the forest sanatorium served as a lung sanatorium. Because of the decline in tuberculosis, the religious order decided to continue the forest sanatorium from 1985 onwards as an old people's and nursing home, initially only for the nuns, but since 1997 also increasingly for "civilian" residents. The forest sanatorium offers both full inpatient care and short-term care places.

A general renovation of the forest sanatorium was completed in spring 2003.

The memorial in front of the forest sanatorium for Karl Leisner

Karl Leisner , beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1996, spent his last days here and died in the room, which can be visited almost unchanged, on August 12, 1945. A memorial for Karl Leisner was set up in front of the forest sanatorium. Every year on his memorial day, a service takes place in the chapel of the forest sanatorium.

The former general superior of the order, Theodolinde Mehltretter , worked here in the administration for 21 years.
