The Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul are a society of apostolic life . You are part of the Vincentian family and a member of the Federation of Vincentian Communities .

history

In 1832, King Ludwig I brought the Cooperative of the Daughters of Christian Love from Saint Vincent de Paul to the Kingdom of Bavaria . On March 19, 1832, two sisters from Strasbourg arrived in Munich and founded a new branch. Between 1837 and 1839 the mother house of the Bavarian Congregation was built on Nussbaumstrasse. In 1848 there were already 16 branches in Bavaria. The founding in Innsbruck, Graz, Salzburg and Augsburg originated in Munich, where the St. Vincent sisters also worked at the university clinic. In 1939 the number of sisters peaked at 2,847 in over 150 branches.

The work of the congregation was severely restricted under National Socialism. After the war, the sisters continued their work. On February 5, 2007, the parent company moved to Vinzenz-von-Paul-Straße 1 in the Berg am Laim district of Munich . In October 2016 there were 233 sisters in the religious community.

Facilities

One of the main roles of the Sisters of Mercy is nursing. The sisters of the Bavarian branches mainly work in the two hospitals that they run themselves. The Sisters of Mercy also work in six old people's homes in Munich, where 640 people spend their retirement years. These are the St. Michael retirement and nursing home in Munich- Berg am Laim , the St. Katharina Labouré retirement and nursing home in Unterhaching , the Waldsanatorium retirement and nursing home near Planegg in the municipality of Krailling , the retirement and nursing home St. Adelheid in Ruhpolding , the senior citizens' residential complex with St. Elisabeth nursing home in Teisendorf and the St. Hildegard nursing home for members of the religious order in Siegsdorf .

The Sisters of Mercy from Munich are also the sole shareholders of Adelholzener Alpenquellen . To partially supply their facilities, the Sisters of Mercy run two farms in Bad Adelholzen and Unterhaching. They also run the Maria Regina vocational school for nursing in Munich, where nurses are trained. The congregation also includes rest and retreat houses: the St. Vinzenz rest house in Inzell, the Bad Adelholzen nurses' home , the St. Hildegard rest house in Siegsdorf and the Luise house in Unterwössen.

Neuwittelsbach Hospital

The Neuwittelsbach Hospital is a specialist internist clinic. The sanatorium was founded in 1885 and from 1932 it was rededicated as a clinic for internal diseases. The house was destroyed in the Second World War; After the war, the Sisters of Mercy bought the land and the remains of the building.

The Maria Theresia Clinic in Munich is a specialist surgical clinic with 68 beds. The building at Bavariaring 46 was built by James Loeb and initially made it available to Emil Kraepelin free of charge for residential and research purposes. In addition to Kraepelin, his colleague Johannes Lange and his family also lived in the building from 1927 . It is the birthplace of the theologian Ernst Lange . After the German Research Institute for Psychiatry moved to a Loeb building in Schwabing, he left the house to Max Lebsche free of charge in 1930 . In 1952 Lebsche handed the clinic over to the Sisters of Charity. The clinic was renovated at the beginning of the 21st century. The clinic has been an academic teaching hospital of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since 2005 .
