The Pran Buri Forest Reserve ( Thai : วนอุทยาน ปราณบุรี ) consists mainly of mangroves , which occur as an extensive mangrove forest at the mouth of the Pran Buri River in the Gulf of Thailand .

The 3.17  km² area of ​​the forest reserve is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Pran Buri in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan . The Prachuap Khiri Khan Province is located in the southern part of the central region of Thailand .

The sanctuary is linked to the Khlong Kao-Khlong Kob sanctuary . It was established on September 30, 1982 after King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) personally took on the project.

climate

The climate is tropical - monsoonal and has three seasons: (1) the rainy season from June to the end of October with abundant rainfall, (2) the cool season from November to February and (3) the summer from March to May.

Flora and fauna

In addition to the numerous mangrove tree species that line the coast for about 1 kilometer, there are seagrass meadows and further inland, for example, gardenia species, deciduous and bamboo forests .

Many species of shorebirds, such as the taxa cormorants and storks , live here. The Tenasserim muntjac lives in the deciduous forests.
