Project 2018
In May 2018, the Lower Austrian provincial government presented a completely new traffic axis through the Waldviertel, which is to connect Linz with the Weinviertel expressway and the north autobahn and thus central growth areas such as Linz or southern Germany with northeast Lower Austria and centers such as Brno . So far, however, no specific route variants have been presented, only a corridor has been defined.

In an answer to a parliamentary question, Ing.Norbert Hofer, then Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology, announced that as of October 29, 2018, there was still no verifiable formal proposal for a network change to initiate a strategic review - transport and therefore not yet it could be assessed whether and when an environmental impact assessment would be initiated. In the meantime, such an examination should have been initiated.
criticism
Immissions
Critics fear that the project will lead to increased health pollution through increased immissions, in particular through noise and fine dust. Expert opinions on comparable road construction projects would have shown that there is still increased noise pollution even a kilometer away from a motorway.
The Green Member of Parliament, Ecker, warned in particular of increased exhaust emissions and the endangerment of the quality of life in the Hollabrunn community, through which the "transit lane" should run.

DI Dr. Harald Frey, traffic expert at the Technical University of Vienna, warns of the massive impact of the construction of motorways on rural areas. Fast traffic leads to an outflow of purchasing power. While the local economy would suffer, only transit companies and large corporations benefit. He proves this with the slump in Lungau's regional economic output after the construction of the Tauern motorway. In addition, up to 2,000 hectares of valuable arable land would be blocked by the motorway.
