Walikal is a territory (administrative district, area of ​​responsibility of an administrative unit ) in North Kivu , one of the 10 or 25 (from 2011) provinces in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The main town of the area is also called Walikal .

Security situation

The headquarters of the Forces Démocratiques de la Liberation du Rwanda (FDLR) has been located in the area since 2003 (currently October 2010).

Rape, murder and looting by regular troops in the country and Rwandan and Congolese militias took place in Walikal in 2010.

Since the summer of 2011, the government troops have been barracked in the area to enable reorganization. This aggravated the situation.
