Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) is a Norwegian-Swedish shipping company that mainly deals with the worldwide transport of vehicles and other rollable cargoes.

The head office is in Lysaker near Oslo (Norway); the German branch is in Lehrte near Hanover.

history

The shipping company was founded in 1999 as Wallenius Wilhelmsen by the Swedish shipping company Wallenius Lines and the Norwegian shipping company Wilh. Wilhelmsen as a joint company for the operational business. Christopher Connor was the company's CEO from August 2013, and Craig Jasienski since the mid-2010s.

On December 14, 2002, the Tricolor , a 190-meter-long car transporter from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics , sank in the English Channel after a collision with the container freighter Kariba with 2,871 new cars on board . The ship was a total loss and could only be partially salvaged later.

In 2005, W&W took over half of the company shares in the US logistics company DAS. In the following year, the direction of the shipping company was changed to a full-range supplier in vehicle logistics and the name was changed to Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL).

WWL is one of the market leaders in car transport by sea and currently (March 2018) operates a fleet of over 50 ships. Until the merger, most of the ships operated belonged to the two participating shipping companies and were chartered. In 2018, WWL transported 4.3 million motor vehicles, 2.3 million by sea and around two million by land. In addition, around three million other rolling cargo units were handled. With 3,500 employees worldwide, WWL had annual sales of 2.3 billion US dollars in 2010.

In September 2016, the two participating shipping companies agreed to sell their respective shares in the companies Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (100% joint ownership), EUKOR Car Carriers (80% joint ownership) and American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) (100% joint ownership) in the company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics ASA and also to bring the ownership of most of the ships as well as the associated assets and liabilities into this company.

In April 2017, the Swedish Wallenius Lines merged with the Norwegian Wallenius Wilhelmsen to form the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Group . In this context, the previous operating company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) split up :

  • Shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean (WW Ocean)
  • Logistics service provider Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions (WW Solutions)

The brands EUKOR and ARC, which also belong to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Group , continue to operate under their previous names.
