from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chapel in hostage Wies is a Mary - pilgrimage site or a former Bruendl -Wallfahrt.

Geiselwies Chapel

The Geiselwies Chapel is located at the intersection of the paths between Sixtnitgern , Langengern and Sittenbach in a large forest clearing in the municipality of Odelzhausen ( Dachau district in Bavaria ). It is controversial whether the name can be traced back to an earlier pilgrimage to the Scourged Savior or from the field name "Gaisiwiz" = meadow by Georg Seitzen.

history

Believers have been making pilgrimages to Geiselwies since 1738. In the middle of the 18th century (around 1750), the first pilgrimage Madonna was transferred from Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn to the chapel. After the pilgrimage Maria Stern zu Taxa was destroyed during the secularization, the pilgrimage to Geiselwies experienced a major boom from 1802.

Interior

There is a statue of Our Lady behind the barred chancel. There are six pews in the prayer room. Two wall frescoes show "Jesus is scourged" (Scourge) and "Jesus meets his mother on the Way of the Cross" (Marienkapelle).
