Jagstheim pilgrimage chapel
The pilgrimage chapel to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic Marian pilgrimage chapel in Baden-Württemberg . It is located in the hamlet of Jagstheim, which belongs to the municipality of Kirchheim am Ries .
history
The church was first mentioned in 1399. A Marian pilgrimage has been documented in Jagstheim since the 15th century. 1694 came into the possession of the Cistercian monastery of the Assumption in Kirchheim . Since 1706 the chapel has also been a place of worship of the Sacred Heart . After a fire in 1834, the church tower collapsed in 1870 and was only rebuilt in a reduced form. The nave was also shortened.
Interior
The baroque altars are works by Kaisheim artists. The high altar painting shows the Assumption of Mary into heaven. The miraculous image is an enthroned Madonna with a child Jesus in a halo. Four of the 15 votive plaques on the church walls are still preserved. The remaining 11 tablets were stolen from the chapel in the 1960s. Altar paintings show Cistercian nuns singing the Salve Regina together with their founder, Bernhard von Clairvaux . The saint with the Trinity is depicted on the right side altar . There is also a depiction of Anna Selbdritt from 1500.
