The Walter Scheel Foundation is a foundation in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Foundation and history
The Walter Scheel Foundation was founded in 1973 by the name giver, the then Federal Foreign Minister. It is a non-incorporated foundation, the purpose of which is to organize and hold events on foreign and development policy issues, as well as the publication of publications and funding through grants. The chairman of the foundation is Rolf Berndt . Further board members are Gerhard Söltenfuß and Ulrich Scheel, a son of Scheel's first marriage.
In 2010 Walter Scheel led the foundation through a donation agreement under the umbrella of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom , of which he was honorary chairman of the board of trustees. Since then, both foundations have regularly organized joint conferences on peace , security or European policy as well as on the protective and legal functions of the liberal democratic model in Berlin .
Walter Scheel Prize
The Walter Scheel Prize has been awarded every two years for commitment to development cooperation since 2011, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . The Walter Scheel Foundation, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the Friends of Walter Scheel eV have been the official lenders since 2015.
