Walter Berndt
Walter Berndt (born November 22, 1899 in Brooklyn , New York City , † August 15, 1979 in Port Jefferson (New York) ) was an American comic artist .
Berndt worked for the New York Journal - first as an office messenger, then as a sports cartoonist. He drew the cartoon And the Fun Begins for a short time and also tried - largely unsuccessfully - as a cartoonist for the New York World newspaper . From 1922 Berndt then published with a syndicate . His comic strip about the teenage office boy Smitty , his little brother Herby , his girlfriend Ginny and his boss Mr. Bailey as minor characters was printed in American newspapers for over 50 years.
