Walter Brandorff
Walter Brandorff (* 1943 in Munich ; † August 8, 1996 in Carinthia ) was an Austrian writer .
Life
Walter Brandorff was born in Munich, after the death of his mother the family returned to Austria. Brandorff, who always lived very withdrawn and whose biography is largely in the dark, attended the Benedictine high school in St. Paul Abbey and studied psychology and law at the University of Graz . After completing his doctorate , he entered the civil service and spent most of his life in Carinthia. Brandorff worked as a court secretary until his retirement in 1991 and carried the title of " Real Councilor ".
Between 1989 and 1996 von Brandorff published three novels and two volumes with smaller stories , which he initially self- published; In 1992 he founded the Weiherhaus Verlag for his books . In his works, which are all considered outstanding among connoisseurs of the genre , Brandorff combined elements of splatter and eroticism with narrative structures from classic horror literature .
Brandorff was killed in a helicopter crash on August 8, 1996 near his home in Carinthia. He was only 53 years old and so the novella "Midnight Special" in the EDFC anthology "Paths to the Fantastic" was the last story that was accepted and published during his lifetime. His books were taken over by Verlag Lindenstruth and made accessible again with a new ISBN. Brandorff's works enjoy cult status among numerous friends of fantastic literature . At the end of 2010 the Lindenstruth publishing house published the collection of short stories 'Midnight Special' from his estate.
